Mix warm water with dry yeast and set aside for 5 minutes.
Flour is sifted and added to the yeast, along with sugar, butter, milk, vanilla sugar and salt. Knead a dough, cover the bowl with a towel and set aside, in a warm place, for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the ingredients for rolling and mix them.
We take the pieces of dough and form balls of the desired size, put them through the rolling pin and put them in the form. We had joint work, that's why the size is a bit different, it's important that the little ones got involved, even though they didn't understand what to do with the monkeys.
We leave the shape aside to increase the balls and then we shape them in the preheated oven and bake them for about 30-40 minutes. Serve hot and sticky, if you have the next day to heat them in the microwave.
I never would have thought that within the last year, Gigi Hadid would have become a huge inspiration for me in the kitchen, but here we are! And for the record, I'm totally glad I found her recipes on Instagram. As someone who bakes frequently, I already had most of the ingredients on hand, biscuits being the exception. One thing I will stress: double-check you buy buttermilk biscuits and not flaky biscuits or else your monkey bread will be a crumbled flaky mess out of the oven. I didn't make any modifications to Gigi's recipe, though I was a bit apprehensive about the amount of liquid from the brown sugar glaze but I trusted the process, and damn, is Gigi onto something here! If you're looking to win over your loved ones with a stellar dish, or craving something warm, gooey, and extra sweet, I can't recommend Gigi's recipe enough.

Cut the Biscuits: The first thing you & rsquoll want to do is open up your package of biscuits and cut each one into 12 pieces to form small chunks of dough.
Coat the Biscuits: Toss the biscuit pieces in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Be sure to get them fully coated.
Make the Caramel: Homemade caramel sounds intimidating, but this one is just a mixture of brown sugar and butter, cooked over low heat until it comes to a boil. Easy peasy!
Assembly: Place 9 pieces of biscuit dough into a muffin well and then drizzle with a spoonful of the caramel sauce. Repeat to fill 10-11 muffin wells.

- ¾ cup white sugar
- 2 (7.5 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Spray 8 muffin cups with cooking spray.
In a bowl, stir together 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and the white sugar until evenly blended. Remove the biscuits from the packages, and cut into quarters. Drop a few biscuit pieces at a time into the sugar mixture, and coat thoroughly. Distribute the coated biscuit pieces among the prepared muffin tins (4 to 5 pieces per cup).
Place butter, brown sugar, and the remaining 1 tablespoon cinnamon in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl, and microwave a few seconds until the butter has melted. Stir to blend, and drizzle about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture over each cup.
Bake in the preheated oven until the tops of the muffins are crispy and brown, about 20 minutes. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before removing from pan.
The directions for this homemade monkey bread recipe takes up to a few hours in total but each step is relatively simple.
First, you make the homemade dough and let it rise for a few hours. (Use a large bowl! I should have used a bigger bowl than I did for this step, the dough gets so big !!) Then, you punch dough down and break off dough bites to roll in butter and cinnamon sugar.
Load up the bundt pan with these sugary bites, let bites rise for twenty minutes, and then pour over the brown sugar glaze. Pop in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes. Once it is out of the oven, invert onto serving platter, add a little icing, and enjoy!
This monkey bread is a ridiculously indulgent treat. I’m usually aiming to be on the healthier side of things so my kids could hardly believe that I was letting them bake and eat such a sugary treat. My five year old kept repeating, “Thank you Mom! Just… thank you !! ” while helping to make and eat our latest favorite guilty pleasure!
Why is it called Monkey Bread?
It & # 8217s called monkey bread because you eat it with your hands like a monkey would! Pretty simple, right?
I remember when I first heard about monkey bread wondering what the heck was this about. I wouldn & # 8217t want to eat a monkey. I laughed when I discovered what it actually was.
The origin of the term "monkey bread" comes from the pastry being a finger food the consumer would pick apart the bread as a monkey would. 
Other names for the bread include Christmas morning delights,  monkey puzzle bread, monkey brains, sticky bread, Hungarian coffee cake, golden dumpling coffee cake, pinch-me cake, pluck-it cake, bubble loaf and funky bread. [ citation needed ]
What most people know as monkey bread today in the United States is actually the Hungarian dessert arany galuska ("golden dumpling"). Dating back to the 1880s in Hungarian literature, Hungarian immigrants brought this dish with them when they immigrated to America and began introducing it into the country’s food landscape when Hungarian and Hungarian Jewish bakeries began selling it in the mid-twentieth century. 
In 1972, a cookbook published by Betty Crocker included a recipe for arany galuska, which they referred to as "Hungarian Coffee Cake". As it became more popular in America, arany galuska came to be confused with monkey bread in which the balls of dough are not dipped in cinnamon and sugar but only in butter. "Monkey bread" soon became the more common name for this Hungarian Jewish dessert. 
Recipes for the bread first appeared in American women's magazines and community cookbooks in the 1950s, but the dish is still virtually unknown outside the United States.
During the 1980s, Nancy Reagan popularized serving monkey bread during Christmas by making it a staple of the Reagan White House Christmas.  According to food historian Gil Marks, Nancy served her husband monkey bread the night before his Iran – Contra affair Congressional testimony, with former President Ronald Reagan purportedly remarking, “Mommy, I may go to prison, but I’ll always remember this monkey bread. ”   
The bread is made with pieces of sweet yeast dough (often frozen), which are baked in a cake pan at high heat after first being individually covered in melted butter, cinnamon, sugar, and chopped pecans.  It is traditionally served hot so that the baked segments can be easily torn away with the fingers and eaten by hand. 
Pesto Monkey Bread
Refrigerated biscuit dough makes this savory monkey bread a breeze to put together. The mounds of dough are tossed with a buttery, herby Parmesan and then baked until brown. Any shape pan can be used, but it should be big enough to hold 1 to 1 1/2 quarts, so an 8-inch square baking pan works well.

Storage Notes: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
When you scale a recipe, keep in mind that cooking times and temperatures, pan sizes and seasonings may be affected, so adjust accordingly. Also, amounts listed in the directions will not reflect the changes made to ingredient amounts.
Position a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees.
In a 1- to 1 1/2-quart baking dish such as an 8-inch square pan, combine the melted butter, pesto, 2 tablespoons of the Parmesan and the salt.
Separate the dough into biscuits, and quarter each biscuit. Place the pieces in the baking pan with the butter mixture and, using your hands, toss to combine and coat the pieces well.
Arrange the dough pieces evenly in the pan. They will be piled on top of each other and touching, but make sure they are evenly distributed. Then, sprinkle the remaining Parmesan over the dough pieces and cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for 20 minutes, then remove the foil. Bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the inside is cooked through, with no doughy pockets (use a butter knife to check out the middle of one biscuit).
Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Invert the monkey bread onto the rack, then flip the bread carefully over again and transfer to a serving plate.
