Rapper Snoop Dogg has given out thousands of Thanksgiving turkeys to those in need in the neighborhood he calls his “second home

For the second year in a row, rapper Snoop Dogg has returned to the town he calls his second home, Inglewood, California, to give out Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need. This year, the big-hearted hip-hop artist gave out more than 1,500 turkeys and spent time taking more than 800 selfies with his grateful fans, as well as giving out plenty of free hugs, according to Page Six.

Inglewood, one of the more crime-ridden cities in California, is often featured in rap songs by artists like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

The annual giveaway started last year when Snoop approached the mayor of Inglewood and asked what he could do to help. Last year, the rapper gave out 800 turkeys, a number that he practically doubled this year. Snoop says he will be continuing the tradition annually.

“Inglewood, y’all know I love you.” Snoop announced at the community event on November 19. “This is my second home.”

Snoop Dogg hands out thanksgiving turkeys to families in need in Los Angeles

Snoop Dogg has participated in an event in his home city of Los Angeles in which he helped to hand out 1,500 turkeys to families in need ahead of the American holiday thanksgiving this coming Thursday (November 26).

Mayor of Inglewood, California James Butts announced to TV channel KNBC-TV that Snoop had participated in the annual event for the second year running, taking hundreds of photos with fans. The event also handed out 800 turkeys to families last year.

According to Butts, the collaboration came about after the rapper asked the city what he could do to give back to the community last year.

“Snoop Dogg took pictures with over 800 people at the event,” Butts said. “We had a tented area for seniors to sit in, and the first thing he did was go over to take pictures with everyone there.”

Earlier this month, Snoop launched his own cannabis company called ‘Leafs by Snoop’, which he says will sell “the finest quality cannabis one could imagine.” The launch comes against a backdrop of progressive legalisation of the drug in the US. The company cannot be legally owned by the rapper, as he does not live in Colorado, where it is based.

“Wherever my musical journey has taken me around the world, it’s beautiful to see how chronic leafs are a common source of peace, love and soul that connects us all,” Snoop Dogg says in a statement on the company’s official website.

“Since I’ve been at the forefront of this movement for over 20 years now, I’m a master of marijuana,” the rapper added at a launch event on Monday (November 9), according to The Guardian. “Leafs By Snoop is truly the first mainstream cannabis brand in the world and proud to be a pioneer.”
